An enterprising motorcycle mechanic has kick-started his business with a new MOT service thanks to the Start Up Loan scheme and Let’s Do Business Group.
Mark Gatward worked for an amateur motorcycle racing team for 20 years, as well as servicing bikes for compulsory basic training, before deciding to run his own business offering repairs and accessories.
Start Up Loans in Eastbourne, East Sussex
He took over Mad4motorcycles in Birch Industrial Estate, Eastbourne, six months ago and set up an extended hours MOT service to draw in new customers.
Unlike other MOT centres that operate during usual trading hours, Mark allows customers to drop off their bikes before work from 7.30am. Mad4motorcycles also has extended opening hours until 7pm on Thursdays.
When Mark approached high street lenders for a loan to install an MOT bay, his application was rejected– but undeterred, he turned to Let’s Do Business for a Start Up Loan.
The scheme offers flexible pay back terms on loans that average £5,000, mentoring support and a host of other discounted benefits to newly formed businesses across the southeast.
“If it wasn’t for Let’s Do Business, then I wouldn’t have the business I own today,” said Mark, who was loaned £9,400. “Their help was invaluable.”
Keir Dellar, Head of Projects at the Let’s Do Business Group, added: “Mark didn’t meet the criteria for a loan from a high street lender but we were pleased to help and it’s great to see his business idea get off the ground.”
