Start Up Loan opens the door for Sire
A Kent based entrepreneur in Gillingham has achieved his childhood ambitions after launching his own business with the help of a Start Up Loan and Let’s do Business Group.
Daniel Dobinson, 24, has had the drive to be his own boss since childhood and after securing a position in an Industrial Door firm his business aspirations grew and grew.
He approached Let’s Do Business Group last year for help to kick-start his business and after being approved for a Start Up Loan of £9,500 he was able to launch Sire Doors.
Sire Doors install, maintain and repair industrial, commercial and residential doors and shutters. Based in Kent, they operate right across the South East of England and beyond.
Daniel said: “The loan was the key factor that enabled me to start the business. I couldn’t get funding from mainstream resources and my family weren’t in a position to invest. The Start Up Loan acted as springboard for me and was the cash injection I needed to buy for tools, stock and a vehicle.”
The fledgling entrepreneur teamed up his father-in-law Sean Doyle; with over 30 years’ experience in the field, and Daniel’s business and management skills, they formed a great partnership.
Things weren’t plain sailing however, as with any start-up the road to success is never straightforward. Their industry is surprisingly tough, with smaller firms often losing out on contracts to much larger, more established companies with high turnovers. But not one to give up, Daniel has persisted and the Company has had a strong first year of trading.
Their customer base is building gradually, their reputation is growing and Sire Doors are currently engaged in some very exciting negotiations, so watch this space!
The Start Up Loans scheme was developed to make start-up capital and mentoring more affordable to new businesses, giving them the resources and support needed to get their ventures off the ground.
Recently the scheme reached the milestone of backing 20,000 businesses to the total of £100 million throughout the UK. The LDBG deliver the scheme throughout the South East of England and to date, have helped almost 600 start-ups with in excess of £3m.
