Success for new open water swim school
Ex-competitive swimmer Laura Ansell has found success with her innovative open water swimming business TriSwim, following a Start Up Loan from the Let’s Do Business Group.
Swimming has always been in Laura’s blood. She first discovered her love of the water whilst on a family holiday in Spain at the tender age of three. It was her Dad’s calm patient early tuition upon their return which stuck with Laura, who said: “I trusted my Dad and naturally felt calm and safe, through his patient guidance swimming became a pleasure, an activity which was to become a building block of who I am today. I didn’t realise at the time that this relaxed form of hands- on teaching would pave the way for my future style of teaching and for TriSwim itself.”
At the age of 19, Laura left competitive swimming behind and partnered with Steven Shaw (The Shaw Method) at an Australian swim school. This was where the spark was really ignited for Laura. She quickly rose through the ranks, becoming Swim School Head Teacher and Coordinator. Laura then travelled the world honing her craft working for a package holiday company to develop and run a ‘swim abroad’ teaching and safety program.
In 2015 Laura returned to the UK and took up open water swimming. She was quickly hooked and contacted the National Open Water Coaching Association (NOWCA) to enrol on an open water coaching course. Upon gaining her NOWCA qualification, Laura was approached by a number of local triathlon Mums enquiring after her services. This was when TriSwim was born.
After meeting with our team of Let’s Do Business Group advisors, Laura received mentoring to help put together a business plan prior to loaning her £8,500 to make TriSwim a reality.
Through the Start-Up Loan scheme, the Let’s Do Business Group offers Start-Up Loans of up to £25,000, with up to five years repayment terms, to new business owners across the South East who have a viable business proposition.
Launching TriSwim has also brought Laura to the attention of the ASA, who has made her ASA Open Water Manager; head of a committee set up to help improve standards and participation numbers in youth open water swimmers.
“Setting up TriSwim has been a labour of love, and I couldn’t have done it without the help and guidance of Let’s Do Business,” commented Laura. “I wholeheartedly look forward to seeing what the future brings and that is in no small part down to the faith shown in me by the Let’s Do Business Group!” The latest news is that TriSwim has partnered with the global wetsuit giant, BlueSeventy! We wish Laura every success for what we are sure will be a bright future.
