Start up loans - exporting to EU countries

Does your start up business sell goods or service overseas to EU countries or are considering exporting? Expanding your business overseas might seem daunting but it can be a great way to grow.

What is exporting?

Selling your goods or services to companies located in countries outside of the UK is considered exporting. It’s worth noting though that HMRC only considers goods and services being sold to countries outside of the EU as exporting. Take a look at UK Trade & Investment for more information.

Why export?

Exporting is not only great for UK businesses, it also helps the UK economy. Research conducted by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) found 34% of companies increased their productivity in their first year of exporting. They also found that 85% of businesses achieved growth that would have otherwise been unattainable if it weren’t for exporting.

Where do I start?

Get to grips with VAT, record keeping and more with an online learning package developed by HMRC to guide you through exporting, from how to get started and the export process to classifying your goods and using an agent.
