Support for local businesses in celebration of Small Business Saturday
Small businesses are vital to both our local and wider economies; contributing revenue, employment, skills and training to our communities.
That’s why we’re supporting Small Business Saturday on 6th December. On the first shopping Saturday of the festive season, businesses, organisations and consumers across the nation will join forces to promote, support and inspire small businesses.
The independent campaign highlights small business success and encourages consumers to shop within their local communities and support local businesses.
Small Businesses are the lifeblood of our communities
We spoke to Start Up Loan (SUL) client, socially conscious entrepreneur Lauren Roffey who, in August of this year opened Baked Worthing CIC, a cake café with a difference.
This is what Lauren had to say about Small Business Saturday:
“Of course we’re supporting Small Business Saturday – the lifeblood of any town, it is a great day to celebrate, promote and showcase all of us little guys trying to make a difference. Rowlands Road, where we’re based, is defined by these types of businesses, offering an eclectic mix of local, often family-run, retail shops and eateries – a real vibrant place reflecting the community of the area.”
Baked is a social enterprise selling home-made and locally sourced goods, whilst supporting the local community through employment and training opportunities for young people and championing local businesses and charities.
From now until Christmas, Baked will be at the Traditional Christmas Market at Steyne Gardens in Worthing – two places to pick up your Baked Christmas treats!
Support local in Hastings
Our partners at Hastings Town Centre Management have extended their popular Thursday market to now include Saturday’s during December, to coincide with Small Business Saturday.
Starting on 6th December the markets, held in Wellington Place will showcase local small businesses with stalls ranging from homemade bread and jams to locally caught fish, gifts and clothing.
Many of the businesses are start-ups and, over the years the markets have helped them to raise their profile, test trade and many go onto secure permanent premises within the town centre.
Hastings Town Centre Saturday markets will open between 9am and 4pm on 6th, 13th and 20th December.
