Starting a new business in Hampshire
The birthplace of the Royal Navy, RAF and British Army, Hampshire is the largest county in the South East England and the third largest Shire in the country.
In terms of business, Hampshire is a world-leading county with a leading presence in a number of industries, excellent transport links and a highly skilled workforce.
Hampshire has a major presence in the Marine, Aerospace and Defence industries, as well the Financial and Business Services sector, ICT and Digital Media and Distribution and Logistics.
The transport infrastructure of road, rail and sea-ports have the added advantage of regional and international airports based within the county.
The business community have strong links with the major educational establishments in the county, including their four universities.
Hampshire’s total economy is worth £22.9 billion and is the largest economy in England, outside of London and contribute almost 3% of total GDP for the UK as a whole.
It’s not surprising that last year, nearly 10,000 new businesses started-up in Hampshire, with more than 1200 in entrepreneurial Basingstoke, almost 1200 in Winchester and just over 1000 in Eastleigh.
There is plenty of support in the county for start-ups, the council works closely with entrepreneurs from the beginning to help them find the best place to base themselves, as well as assisting with sourcing grants to drive businesses forward.
